2026 Summer Summit Series:
Thriving in Transition: Reimagining ADHD Care for Young Adults
The transition from adolescence to young adulthood is a crucial time for individuals with ADHD, often characterized by disruptions in care, new environments, and increased risks. As young adults enter college or the workforce, gaps in clinical guidance, care continuity, and support systems can lead to inconsistent treatment, medication misuse, and difficulties in managing their condition.
Mindful Choices for ADHD’s two-part 2026 Summer Summit Series – Thriving in Transition: Reimagining ADHD Care for Young Adults – will explore how to better support young adults during this transition by strengthening care continuity and expanding the ADHD care toolkit.
The conversations will highlight key policy considerations shaping access to ADHD treatment and identify practical opportunities to promote safe, consistent, and developmentally appropriate care.
Session #2:
Successfully Transitioning: Expanding the ADHD Care Toolkit for Young Adults
The goal of this session is to explore how to successfully support young adults with ADHD as they transition into more independent environments by expanding their care toolkit. The discussion will focus on how young adults can access appropriate, continuous care as they navigate new settings, such as college or the workforce, including managing the complexity of treatment, provider access, and medication continuity. It will also examine the role of lifestyle approaches such as sleep, nutrition, exercise, and executive function coaching, alongside behavioral therapy, while highlighting existing gaps in access and research. In parallel, the session will address strategies to reduce medication misuse and diversion through more comprehensive, coordinated care. Finally, it will consider the policy landscape shaping access to ADHD treatment, including emerging federal and state priorities, and why these conversations matter for improving outcomes for young adults.

Session #1:
Young Adults with ADHD: Lost in Transition
The goal of this session is to examine the critical transition from adolescence to young adulthood for individuals with ADHD, with a focus on what breaks down as they move from high school into college or the workforce.
Through a multidisciplinary lens, the discussion will explore how gaps in clinical guidance, care continuity, and support systems contribute to inconsistent treatment, increased risk behaviors, medication misuse or diversion, and both over- and under-prescribing.
The session will also consider the impact of new peer environments, stigma, and the shift from pediatric to adult care on young adults’ ability to manage their condition effectively. Ultimately, the aim is to surface practical insights and opportunities to better support safe, consistent, and developmentally appropriate ADHD care during this high-risk, high-opportunity period.
